Joselyn Hidalgo Vivas
Joselyn Hidalgo is a precious three year old girl from El Salvador who suffers from severe Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). Joselyn's family lives in a mud house with a household income of $3.00US per day. Her mother diligently searched to find help for her child. Sadly, none was available. Due to the fact that Joselyne’s family lacks the necessary financial resources and the hospitals in El Salvador lack the necessary medical resources for her condition, this child was left with no hope. Her parents were told that her condition was fatal and therefore no one would treat her nor provide any medication as she struggled to survive. Finally, in the later part of 2006, Joselyn’s mother discovered a cardiologist who agreed to help. This doctor appealed to Rotarians to find help for this child outside of her home country. Even in the USA, her condition was considered so grave that three leading U.S. hospitals turned her away. Five months later, Music for Heart was successful in sponsoring this child for life saving corrective heart surgery. With the help of Gift of Life, Inc., Joselyn was accepted for treatment. Joselyn has multiple complex abnormalities, some of which have now been corrected with her first surgery which took place on April 5, 2007. Joselyn now needs to return to the USA for her next and hopefully final open heart surgery. Joselyn and her family have expressed their tremendous gratitude to everyone who has played a role in saving her precious life.
